Due to my upcoming move, all future family portrait sessions will be shot on location. I will be coming to your home or property, or to a location of your choice. I suggest public parks, country spots, farms or wooded areas. If you are unable to find a spot, I will suggest a location. I am particularly fond of shooting at cottages. My new space.

With the Holidays approaching, preparations are being made, gifts purchased and lists completed. It is an exciting time for all. For me, this Holiday season,

I am moving Jen van der Vecht Photography into a new, larger space. I hope to be completely moved in and have gallery space open for business* February 1, 2010. I will be located in Newmarket, near the Magna Center on Mulock Drive. All future photo sessions will be on location. Please revisit BLOG and website for changes in contact information.

By photographing 12 women who are or who have fought the battle with breast cancer.

With a black and white portrait, a peek into the story of each woman's battle.I am interested in what makes them strong. What gives them purpose.Where did they reach into, insides themselves?

From time to time, I have a moment (and courage)

to sort through my ever growing piles of prints and

I invariably have that "Oh yeah, remember that..."

moment. I mostly associate people from a time in

my life... where I was at in my head, stuff like that...

Well, here is one of them... this was the coolest

hippy couple ever.... I really connected

with her in particular because she gave me some straight

up advice that resonates with me still today....

One funny thing that babies always do when I photograph them is to crawl toward me intent on fingering my lens.... maybe she sees herself in the reflection? I just love this little meatball head.

I recently visited a hotel in Toronto and couldn't but help stealing a quick photograph of a wall of photographic prints. You see, I am a great fan of the "grouping"... a wall of mixed up photographs from different events, usually in the front hall or up a staircase - depicting a collection of images of those special to us. What a way to decorate our home but with photos of those we love, in moments that make us smile? My clients are always asking of my opinion on how to show their portraits... and this example is the closest I can come to expressing how I would most like to see my work enjoyed...

Last spring, I was honoured to photograph Margaret Trudeau

for the Canadian Mental Health Association. She was speaking

in regards to her struggle with Bi-Polar disorder. This spring,

I've been asked to return to photograph Margot Kidder.

Both amazingly colourful women who have lived full and

interesting lives, willing to generously share their struggles

with us. Let's support those struggling with mental illness.
